Low Impact Workout for Expectant Mothers

It can be extremely hard for first-time pregnant mommas to figure out WHAT is allowed and what they should stay away from as they navigate all of the unfamiliar territory of pregnancy! In terms of fitness, it is generally recommended to stay active, but not too strenuous. In addition, if you weren’t actively working out prior to pregnancy, it’s not the best time to start up a high intensity workout.

So many rules, right ?

Well let me break it down for you in simple terms (Note: I am NOT a medical professional, just a first-time momma navigating the waters herself with recommendations from my OB!)

Here goes…

YOGA IS OK! And it feels GREAT on the hip flexors. I would however, steer clear of HOT YOGA. Now is not the time to engage in that one – keep yourself hydrated!

If you’re just easing in OR adding it to your fitness routine; stretching, strengthening & relieving stress is exactly what your body craves during your pregnancy. However, some people (like me) don’t necessarily want to head to an (sometimes) intimidating yoga studio, especially when you’re not feeling 100%, so I do it at home!

Country Heat Sneak Peek!

While I was cruising around the tropics on the Success Club Cruise 2016, an announcement came through about the next home fitness routine. EXCITEMENT immediately grows as we, as coaches, wonder if it will be a weight training program, cardio, pilates, … or what!?

When the news broke that it was a COUNTRY LINE DANCING program called Country Heat, I’ll admit – I laughed alongside a few other coaches as we exclaimed “Why!!?” Many of us are not interested in dancing our way into fitness, and a country line dancing program seems goofy and ineffective.

Cut to the sneak peek. I have now completed two Country Heat workouts and each time it has proved me WRONG. Not only was I dripping in sweat, but my mood significantly improved after each dance was completed. It’s actually FUN and it certainly doesn’t APPEAR to be a workout!

This dance program is different from others I have tried, such as Shaun T’s Cize (also a great time). This program does not require memory for choreography. Calabrese provides a slow-motion step instruction before you start the routine. Then, she pairs two moves together at a time. Once you’re done with those 8 counts, you move on! So you don’t have to stack 10 counts of 8 together and hope to remember each one.

There are no breaks, which keeps your heart rate up and the sweat dripping off your face. No cowboy boots required, but throw them on if you really want to get in the mood! This program launches on JULY 27th and I’ll be hosting our first Country Heat Test Group. So be sure to reach out if you want to take part in the FUN! You may just surprise yourself.
